The plan today was to walk 24k to Burgos, me carrying a pack, Ruth's pack being shipped and Ruth bunny hopping to Burgos, leading Sherpa Robin.
We left at 0550, going out into a light, cool mist.

Church backlit in the morning.

If we got to Burgos, we'd have just over 500k to go.

This gives you an idea what it's like at that time of day. There are proper markers showing the way but often it's just a spray painted yellow arrow on a wall or lamp post. That makes it tricky when you reach a junction, as you have to do your native tracker thing to pick up the trail.

A few km down the road brings you to Atapuerca, where the oldest human ancestor in Europe has been found. But the exhibition is supposed to be a bit naff and we were passing by at 0630,so maybe next time...

After a rocky old climb, next a military base, we reached the high point and I left a pebble here to mark my passing by.

And so to breakfast at 0730, half a loaf filled with bacon and egg and strong black coffee.

They had a great spread. This is not your local Costa Coffee shop!

This is how we feel at the end of a walk.

Foraging tip...
You will see this weed on dry, stony ground, sometimes at the edge of a road or pavement. If you pick a piece up, crush it a bit in your hands (and if a dog hasn't wee'd on it), it should smell like pineapple. It's common English name is 'pineapple weed'.
Something to do whilst waiting for the next installment...
