Ruth's attempt at a stealth photo of the Stepford Twins.

Today was a day for visiting Roman walls, the Parador, and the Gaudí Museum.
This town was surrounded by a Roman Wall. It has been rebuilt, torn down in places, and had things built onto it at various times, including a cathedral.

As readers may have noticed, I actually like architecture and looking at buildings. What remains of the town walls are a Frankenstein collection of bits and pieces of historical bodge building. They seem to have realised this and have got an EU grant to do something about this. As a result a lot of the wall is now in a building site. But it still looks great and you can have fun playing 'spot where the tower used to be'. Ruth said that in another town or city, the derelict buildings attached to the wall would be very expensive residences, boutique hotels or upmarket Airb'nb lets.

After checking the wall out we wandered down to the river, passing all sorts of great street art and statues. I'll include some pictures when Wix is fixed.
))) the lion, the gymnast, the rhino and others
There is probably more decent Street art in León than the whole of Bershire
Anyway, it being breaktime, we found a cake shop where the tapa was sponge cake to go with the coffee. Ruth was happy.
I thought O2 allowed free data roaming, up to my 50GB limit. Not so. It doesn't matter much, now Wix is broken.
We then went to visit Cas Botines, which is a building designed by Antonio Gaudí. If you've visited Barcelona and managed to get out of the bars, you've probably seen his buildings, like Sagrada Familia, the cathedral there.

The exhibition and building are great. Gaudí was one of those OCD types, who designed the whole building, from foundations in a swamp, to the door handles, window frames, doors, and the statue above the entrance, not to mention the guttering.

You can link to other Gaudí stuff there.
Then it was lunchtime so we looked for drinks and tapas and found it at a tiny bar. We sat with an open window to the world, drinking and watching the world go by.
I also managed to get a stealth picture of the Stepford Twins walking by. It might be me, but I find them spooky. They don't ever engage in conversation.

There was a missed photo of Three Wise Monkeys at this bar, possibly two sets.
We've formalised the rules now. It needs to be set of 3 middle-aged to old men, obviously friends, having a drink at the bar, most probably their local. And you need a witness to confirm the sighting, along with photographic evidence.
Then it was time for a siesta.
17.30 and we were out again. Ruth usually knows exactly which way to go. But the heat was obviously affecting her direction finding as we went to Carrefour for supplies for tomorrow. So no Tonto badge for her today. We rounded up some supplies and stacked them in the minibar.
As it was Monday, all the places we liked seemed to be closed. Possibly they opened at 2000. But no use to us. So we went to a place on the main square called Mama Tere. The drinks were nice and we ate tomato salad and a giant cheese plate which was excellent, although it seemed to replace the sausages I had ordered. But the staff were nice so we just ate most of it and have hidden the rest in the minibar.

The cost was the same as yesterday's fiasco, but we were much happier and left a tip, which isn't common here.
Now it's back to the room for a sleep at 2040!
