Day 13 - Belorado to Ages

I spent 10 minutes listening to a Korean lad trying to open the door of the dormitory. He then sat down on his bunk to think about it for a few more minutes the tried again. After listening to him struggle again, I had to get up and help. 'The door is locked' he said as I turned the handle and opened it. Harry Potter moment!

Only 554k to go!

We left this morning at 0650. The aim is to walk about 12k to Villafranca Montes de Oca. This should be easier as we're sending Ruth's pack on to Ages.

Belorado has a real thing about murals.

After about 6k, it's coffee time. For some reason Ruth chooses a large cafe con leche and ends up with what looks like a glass bucket of coffee. I have a coffee snob moment when I realise the milk steamer nozzle is crusted with dried milk froth. It's lucky I only drink Americano!

You can see caves or what looks like window or door openings in cliffs. Sometimes it looks like a church built into the cliff.

Pilgrim weather vane above our coffee stop.

We've walked 12k today, me with pack and Ruth without, dancing around like a happy bunny. We're now in a one horse town, without the horse. The plan is to take a bus or taxi over the mountain. We're waiting on a couple of Aussies...

Deep fried belly pork - the perfect pincho!

Sam and Geoffrey finally arrive. Geoffrey has a rare dementia, which affects his spatial awareness and his movement is slow and slightly clumsy. But he knows what's going on around him, even though his speech can be slow. He has completed a Camino walk a few years ago and it was his dream to do it again. So he and Sam are giving it a go. Sam is having to organise things. They have worked out that they need to send a bag on ahead, walk what they can and then taxi or bus to their destination. As Ruth says 'we should all be more like Sam'. They can't get a room in Agés so are bussing it to Burgos.

The lady from the bar helps us find a taxi and we're off.

Practical Things I learned on the Camino

This journey is a marathon and not a sprint. Rest days are important! It's a Pilgrimage, not a route march. Take care of blisters as soon...
