Apologies to people expecting insights into the human condition and the transformative qualities of the Camino Way. I'm actually writing a diary!
So now we're in Spain. But remember we're crossing the Pyrenees. The next picture shows a refuge that we passed. This is for people trapped by bad weather.

Sorry about the sideways picture but I couldn't get the text in from the previous picture.
And remember
'For every up there's a down'
The journey down was hell. It was steep, not particularly unsteady underfoot but it was long. There were short cuts but they were steeper still. The thing about walking downhill for any length of time is that your toes get jammed into the front of your shoes and it can be as painful ad anything you have felt. If you're using walking poles you can alleviate some of the discomfort. If you zig zag across the slope, you reduce the slope angle. You can try to run straight down. In the end it is much harder than walking uphill.
On the way we passed some gun emplacements installed during the Franco era.
Suffice it to say we were pleased to arrive at Roncevalles.
