Day 3 - Roncevalles to Zubiri

Lights out at 2200 last night. Restless sleep due to a night time snore chorus of three bunks.

Breakfast at Casa Sabina was OK - ham and cheese on toast, apple and cake plus oj and coffee.

We were off at 0720, walking through beech woods. They were the dominant tree here, mostly mature specimins. Beech apparently makes excellent firewood, used in furniture and musical instrument making and not very good for outside woodwork as it rots easily. And the nuts are eaten by all sorts of wildlife.

Don't you feel better for knowing that...

The plan was to walk to Zubiri, which was supposed to be an easy day.

On this walk Ruth seems to have two speeds - slow and slower. I know she has a faster speed because we used that on our training walks in Wokingham.

I think is a bit disingenuous of her to say that I go speeding off. Sometimes on the hills, you just have to grind it out, whether going up or downhill. And the downhill parts can be very difficult as your toes get pushed to the front of your boots. Still no blisters yet 🤞
